FAQs

MEK Armor Frequently Asked Questions!

What Armor options are there and how do I choose the right fit for me?
MEK offers three different options for material and covers 1997+ Jeep Wrangler, 2020+ Jeep Gladiator, 2022+ Ford Bronco, 2014-2024 Gen5 Toyota 4Runner and 2016-2023 Gen 3 Toyota Tacoma. For steel bodies vehicles MEK Armor provides high energy magnet material, for aluminum vehicles MEK uses nano-hold technology and for any vehicle, MEK can make the kit out of PPV (Paint Protection Vinyl). Magnetic and nano-hold technology Armor are thick, reusable, and offer heavy-duty trail protection, while PPV is automotive grade vinyl offering light-duty protection and not reusable. Every product page has a PRODUCT DETAILS tab explaining more.
How does the Armor stick to aluminum doors?
Our new Armor line for JLs, JTs, Trucks and Ford Bronco uses nano-hold technology gel to stick to the vehicle. It does not use adhesives — if it loses stickiness, simply wash off the debris and air dry to reactivate.
Will it actually protect my Jeep’s paint from real trail damage?
Yes — MEK Armor is very durable and designed to absorb branch scrapes, brush, and rock rash so your paint stays resale-ready. The Armor's primary function is protecting your paint, the added bonus is a cool graphic.
Will it mess up or damage my paint when I remove it?
No adhesive, no residue. Our panels use a patented magnetic system designed to stick strong on the trail and peel off clean in seconds.
How easy is it to install and remove?
Watch the installation video for your material on the INSTALLATION & CARE page. There is a technique, as well as, very helpful tips and tricks that will have you installing like a pro in minutes, with no tools needed. Just line up and press on — so easy you can change designs between trail days.
What if I upgrade or sell my vehicle later?
MEK Trail Armor protects your paint, keeps resale high, and comes off clean — leaving your vehicle showroom-ready when it’s time to trade up.
How does MEK Armor compare to vinyl wraps or permanent armor?
Vinyl peels, fades, chips, tears and is hard to remove. Armor like steel is permanent and bulky. MEK is the only removable, reusable protection that works on and off the trail.
Is it worth the money?
A single scratch repair costs more than a full set of MEK panels — and once the paint is gone, resale tanks. MEK prevents costly body shop visits before they start.
How do I store my Armor?
Get the NEW MEK Carry Bag! Otherwise, it's best to store Armor flat until the next use. For nano-hold Armor, ensure the clear plastic backing provided is applied to the gel to keep it fresh and prevent dirt for sticking to it. Nano-hold Armor can stick to both sides of the protective plastic. Storage ideas include stacked on a large piece of cardboard under a raised bed or in between the wheel well floor section in the garage (just be careful not to drive over it)
Can I drive on the highway with my Armor on?
yes you can, the magnetic Armor is tested to 85mph and the nano-hold Armor we have yet to hit a high enough speed to budge it. Just ensure your Armor is properly applied with no raised or over-lapping sections that could allow wind to get in between your Armor and vehicle. Magnetic Hood Armor is NOT rated for high speeds and is for trail use only.
Do you offer replacement parts?
yes, replacement parts for all models can be made to order. You'll find the Replacement parts page from the Armor Collections menu and send us an email for all custom Armor panels you need.
My trail badge does not line up with the Armor cutout, what's up?
Some special additions and 2017 JKs may have different or added badges that we do not account for. This is a simple fix to relocate the badge (it is usually adhered with double sided sticky tape) or make a cutout on the Armor to fit around your added badge. Do not drive with the Armor over a protruded badge that the Armor does not make a flush bond with your vehicle around.
My nano-hold technology Armor is not properly sticking to my vehicle, what do I do?
Your vehicle has some sort or polymer, wax or chemical treatment on it such as a rain repelling wax, non-stick, anti-static, ceramic or Teflon coating that is chemically preventing the nano-hold membrane to bond. The chemical on your vehicle will need to be removed and depending on what's on it could be removed with several carwashes, a wipe down with diluted 70% isopropyl alcohol or a clay or compound chemical remover.
